After the Hurricane I

A couple of weeks ago I visited Grenada. At that time it was a month since Hurricane Ivan had passed through. I had expected things to be getting back to normal but I found the island still to be looking like a war zone. Over the course of the next few days I will post some pics so that you see how it looked.
Today's picture is what greeted me on my first morning. Having arrived after dark I was "forced" to stay in a top hotel as the couple of operating guest houses I had found had few habitable rooms. Those rooms were already taken by local people who had completely lost their own property. The 9pm curfew was approaching so I stopped here: The Renaissance Grand Beach Hotel.
As you can see, the roofs have been destroyed and they are just starting to replace them. (It is the same story across the island with very few roofs remaining, many of the buildings having tarpaulins covering them.) The bushes near to the building survived well but those in more exposed positions were uprooted - see those to the right hand side of the picture. I have posted a large version so you can see more clearly.
The next day I managed to find a much cheaper alternative. A guesthouse with about 5 out of its 20 rooms inhabitable. Unfortunately the electricity supply had not yet been reconnected so I had to use a gas lamp. My room was in fine condition but the top storey above me was completely exposed to the elements and had suffered serious water damage.
This picture and those over the next few days are designed to show you how things are. They are not chosen for their artistic merits but I hope you still appreciate them.

The image may not be posted because of it's artistic merits but that isn't to say it doesn't have any. The composition is well balanced with the palm on the right filling a potential void nicely. Exposure and colour saturation are also good.
More important though are the superb notes. Thanks for posting and please keep them coming.

This is what TE is all about a picture and a note showing a well done homework. So the rest if us actually learning something about our world thru photography. If then the photo is well composed and have bright colors, like this one, it's even better. Please let us see more

The disaster seems big but on the other hand, your photo is a success. At first the angle in diagonal is good, colours are saturated well, a magnificent sky. Good shot!
Le désastre semble grand mais en revanche, votre photo est une réussite. D'abord l'angle en diagonal est bon, les couleurs sont bien saturées, un ciel magnifique. Bien fait.
